What makes a good wake up call service?

To answer this question, I tried to imagine what my ideal wake up call service would look like. I came up with a few things. I’ll list them below and explain my thinking. My plan is to come back to this post often to make sure that The Wake Up Call Service is meeting my own expectations. If I’m going to put this out into the world and put my name against it, I want to be proud of it.
Reliable
Pretty much goes without saying, right? A wake up call is essentially an alarm and it’s intended to wake you up at a certain time, so my ideal wake up call service would always ring my phone at the scheduled time – no exceptions. This is why we’ve built a backup solution in case no human is available to call you. In that scenario, which we’ll try to avoid as much as possible, you’ll receive an automated call that will play a custom recording (new each day) once you answer the call.
Easy
With the app you can easily schedule a call. That’s obvious. You can also edit or cancel a call as needed. We included snooze functionality as well, so you can get an extra 5 mins of sleep if you want and we’ll call you back when that time is up. There’s more, but you get the idea. I tried to build just enough to accomplish the vision of helping people wake up in a pleasant way. It might be tempting to build out a whole bunch of features for this wake up call service, but why?
Friendly
If someone is going to call me to wake me up, I want them to be friendly. That’s why we do our best to only hire super friendly people who will make it a pleasure for you to talk with them every morning (or whenever else you want a call). Any kind of organization is only as good as the people who make up that organization. I want to make sure every call is delightful for everyone who schedules a call, and so it’s on me to make sure I hire well-qualified, genuinely-friendly people. The kind you can “hear” smiling through the phone.
Fun
Because we don’t have to be so serious all the time 🙂 It feels like the work/play balance is a bit out of whack for many people and if your morning wake up call can inject a little fun into your day, all the better. The Wake Up Call Service makes it easy for you to specify what kind of call you’d like (i.e. a wake up call, a reminder call, a motivational call, etc.) as well as what you’d like to talk about, if you have something in mind. Too many people have suffered for long enough at the mercy of an annoying alarm sound on their phone. Talking to a real, friendly, joyful person each morning sounds much better to me. Hopefully I’m not a market of one. There are others like me, right? Right?
So, I’ll check back on this post every now and then (assuming the app gets some traction) to help make sure that the standard I’ve set here doesn’t slip. Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any feedback!
