The vision

Would people be interested in a service where other people call them to wake them up in the morning? That’s the question I’m asking myself as I build this mobile app.

From what I can tell, there is a set of people in the world who have a smartphone but either struggle to wake up in the morning with a normal alarm OR simply enjoy the idea of having someone call them to wake them up. Your brain turns on in a different way when you’re suddenly talking to someone after sleeping all night, riiight?

My hope is that I can build an app that will help people smile and feel good. Maybe it’ll only happen for a few moments during the actual call, but maybe it’ll linger for longer!

In order for this to be a good experience for people, I need to make sure I’m only allowing awesome people to make the calls. The “callers” can earn a little bit of money when making those calls but, for me, that would be secondary. Personally I think I’d get joy from waking people up in a positive and friendly way, and I’m hopeful that other people will get joy out of it too.

So, we’re probably a few weeks out from launching this on both iOS and Android. One cool thing is that you don’t need a phone number to use the app. I’m using app-to-app VoIP technology in order to actually make the calls. Will this be a selling point for people? No idea but we’ll find out soon.
